Director’s Welcome
Dear parents, dear students
I warmly welcome you all to the new school year. I hope you enjoyed a restful holiday and were able to recharge your batteries for the academic year 2025–2026.
The past year was full of events and achievements. This year again, we have planned a wide range of projects and activities in all cycles, which we will present to you in more detail over the course of the year.
Already today, I would like to draw your attention to the traditional Christmas Market of the two European Schools, which will take place at our school during the pre-Christmas season.
In Secondary, our students will once again take part in the major event “Eurosport”, which is regularly organised for all European Schools. In addition, the participation of our students in the ING Marathon is planned. Alongside these sporting highlights, we also want to create cultural experiences: following last year’s great success, we are once again preparing the performance of a musical.
In spring, our Secondary School will once again participate in the project “PISA for Schools”, which is carried out in all European Schools.
Another highlight will be the Europe Day in May 2026, in which students of all cycles will take part.
In addition to these positive outlooks, I would also like to draw your attention once again to a change in the Luxembourgish education system, which also has an impact on the European Schools. Since the school year 2024–2025, we have been required to implement the Law of 20.07.2023 on compulsory education. This law extends compulsory schooling until the age of 18 and sets out the modalities for monitoring compliance (enrolment and attendance). Consequently, the school is obliged to report regularly to the Ministry of National Education, Children and Youth on all enrolled resident students and to notify the Ministry at least once a month of any unjustified absences. You already received a detailed communication with all explanations on the application of this law last year.
We will also continue to keep you informed about the progress of the tramway works and their concrete impact on access to the school.
Finally, I wish you all a successful, fulfilling and inspiring school year 2025–2026.
Yours sincerely,
M. Wedel
