ENGLISH

Meeting Marzena Sowa – A Creative Journey into the World of Comics

On 16 October 2026, pupils from P3, P4 and P5 of the Polish Section at the European School Luxembourg I had the pleasure of taking part in comic book workshops led by Marzena Sowa, an internationally acclaimed Polish author.

Born in 1979 in Stalowa Wola, Poland, Marzena Sowa lives and works between Reims and Brussels. After studying literature in Kraków and Bordeaux, she collaborated with illustrator Sylvain Savoia to create Marzi, an autobiographical graphic novel depicting her childhood in Poland during the final years of the communist regime. This internationally recognised work has received several nominations.

Through her numerous publications, Marzena Sowa explores historical, social and political themes, often presenting them through the innocent yet perceptive eyes of children. Her graphic novel La Petite Évasion was awarded the Prix des écoles at the Angoulême International Comics Festival in 2023.

For pupils of the Polish Section, school is above all a place to discover, explore and develop their passions. This special encounter offered them a wonderful opportunity to discover the secrets of comic book creation and to produce their own illustrated stories under the author’s expert and encouraging guidance.

The children were able to give free rein to their imagination, develop their creativity and explore a new form of artistic expression, while enjoying a unique opportunity to meet and learn from a professional comic book author.

This inspiring event was made possible thanks to the valuable collaboration with the Parents’ Association of the Polish School at the Embassy of Poland in Luxembourg.

It was a day filled with discoveries, meaningful exchanges and inspiring experiences that will remain a wonderful memory for the pupils of the Polish Section.

We are already looking forward to more enriching encounters and creative adventures!
