Celebrating the European Day of Languages
On 24 and 25 September, our school marked the European Day of Languages, celebrated across Europe each year on 26 September. Created by the Council of Europe, the day promotes linguistic diversity and encourages people of all ages to learn languages.
During their language lessons, students were introduced to a range of languages spoken by members of our teaching staff, from Luxembourgish and Portuguese to Lithuanian, Irish and sign language, among many others. Teachers led greeting games, pairwork activities, quizzes and songs, helping students pick up basic greetings and useful words and phrases in each language.
The celebration sparked curiosity about Europe’s rich linguistic and cultural diversity and highlighted the wealth of languages within our own school community. Students responded enthusiastically, describing the activities as enjoyable and interesting.
