ICT

ICT is well provided for in the European School. There are two designated ICT suites. These are booked by the teachers to use with their classes. Each language section has its own dedicated educational programmes suitable for the primary age range.

In addition to children using computers for computer lessons when they learn particular skills, they also use them across the curriculum and as a means of communication. For example the English Year Three children wrote newspaper articles, using 'word' and columns, as if they were journalists reporting on the opening of Tutankhamun’s Tomb in Egypt. Many classes use computers for all manner of subjects including Art, Discovery of the World, Language One, Language Two and Mathematics such as data handling, producing graphs which can be manipulated and interpreted. The list is endless.

Not only are there special ICT suites in the school, but there is also a computer in every classroom. This enables teachers to share information and ideas for lessons. Many teachers are able to take advantage of this and project their work either onto the wall or through an Interactive Whiteboard for the children to focus on. This enhances lessons dramatically as the image can be adjusted and manipulated, according to the needs of the class. The work can be saved, retrieved and reviewed at another time.

Finally, teachers within the school keep abreast of new developments by attending ICT training sessions provided by the ICT co-ordinators, where ICT skills and ideas are shared and developed.
